The Thirty Fourth Doodle

Quite often I will do a design for one of the Creative Allies competitions, mainly as it's good practise, and it's just another way of getting your work out there like.

So this one came from my doodle of the lady with tattoos (see the Thirtieth Doodle) and I worked on it for this longboard design for the band My Darkest Days. Blue and purple seem to be rocking my world lately, so I'm going with it. I sat staring at this for ages once I had the line drawing in place, wondering what to do. Full colour fill? Just a background? If so, what? Space is limited, and I hate fussy and cramped. So I started experimenting, and almost fell into this design. The overlapping colours with obvious brush strokes and watercolour effects (because they ARE watercolours) seemed to compliment the hard drawing of the girl and her tattoo, and you're never quite sure if the colour is over or under her. I like that slight confusion. I LIKE TO BAFFLE YOU.

God, I do love the nakeds. And the tattoos. So basically, this sketch is my combination of two of my greatest loves.

The Twenty Second Doodle

Ahh the musicians, aren't they marvellous. I do like to draw musicians.

This particular chap, Liam, has been a victim of mine several times. He is just very good to draw; a handsome fellow, with tattoos, and a grungy sort of look. All ticks for me!

This is a build up of layers of watercolour, I wanted a very dark and intense image, with emphasis on the eyes. Half musician, half zombie.....

The Twentieth and Twenty-First Doodle

So if you go to http://www.harrietpulford.com/ you will see a nifty little animation with these doodles of mine, which is pretty blimmin' cool. That slider, I could play with it for hours!

This was a fun commission, I loved doing the futuristic Harriet! She wanted it sort of robotic, and when I started for some reason the steampunk robotic style suited it much more than a realistic type, like the Terminator or stuff like that. It just didn't quite look right till I tried that particular style with those rusty sort of colours, it seemed to gel much better. And she was very pleased with it, which helps!

The Eleventh Doodle

Ok, so you may look at this drawing and go 'What the farrrrrrk is that?'. Well, that's because I haven't told you yet.

Basically I know a web developer who was like 'babez can you design some shizzle for ma site' and I was like 'yeh babez no probz'.

We don't talk like that.

This is the second part of a two step illustration, one in which we see this girl in the present, and one in some bizzare future (if you can't tell, this is the futuristic drawing. No one has a robot arm like that yet). You can then switch between the two to see the change, she will do code and all sorts to make that happen.

So I've had lots of fun with this mini project, and I am excited to see the final thing!
