A Friday 13th Doodle Wolf Competition

Ok, so how do you fancy winning a print of this here Wolfy picture?


So as you may know (or may not, who knows..) I love old folk stories and fairy tales; hense this picture. I would be eternally happy if the person who won this print really did LOVE it, so I want YOU to tell ME what it means to you. Do you see something in it that means something to you? Do you see a bit of yourself in the wolf? Do you just plain god damn blimmin' love wolves and think you were probably born into the wrong earthly body and would happily run away with a wolf boy/girl and have little hairy wolf babies?

3) This competition will run till 5.30pm on Tuesday 17th July. All entrants will be considered, and the most imaginative/compelling/downright wonderful one will be plucked out by yours truly. The Twenty-Sixth Doodle

I am a full on history geek, so obviously I love a bit of Sherlock Holmes. Love the books, love the film, love the BBC show. So I decided to do a doodle on it.

So here is a drawing of Benedict Cumberbatch (best name ever) and Martin Freeman. Is it odd I have a big crush on both? Yes, it probably is. Oh well.

I have become obsessed drawing people in this way. My line work is fairly harsh and cutting, but I have avoiding anything 'emo' or scary. Just because something is a little harsh looking doesn't mean it isn't beautiful or interesting.

Coats and fabrics are also amazing to draw and paint. Do it. It's very theraputic.

The Twenty Second Doodle

Ahh the musicians, aren't they marvellous. I do like to draw musicians.

This particular chap, Liam, has been a victim of mine several times. He is just very good to draw; a handsome fellow, with tattoos, and a grungy sort of look. All ticks for me!

This is a build up of layers of watercolour, I wanted a very dark and intense image, with emphasis on the eyes. Half musician, half zombie.....

The Eighth Doodle

Derren Brown. He boggles my mind. I saw a live show of his once, and ever since I have mourned that I am not a man who happens to be his type. Just my luck.

I had loads of fun with this picture, drew him a few times to figure out what worked. The wolf was sort of organic, I was writing out words associated with him such as 'he's not human!' and 'devil' (good things too of course, such as 'amazing' and 'love it') but it got me thinking about witchcraft and magic and views throughout history of those who seemed to have such powers. You were considered 'other-worldly', somehow connected with nature. Wolves are facinating, mysterious and dangerous creatures which I felt embodied these superstitious feelings quite nicely. I wanted him almost invisible, there yet not. (How deep, yeh)

The blue was a little by accident, but I liked it. Red and black is a little cliched, the cold blue seems to fit somehow. Hurrah!

The Sixth Doodle

The Raven. Oh my, I think I have an odd thing about these dark birds, and crows too. They have this odd, macabre mystery that I love, and I'm not even an emo. (Seriously, I couldn't write a poem even if I tried.)

This particular design took me a little while, I enjoyed experimenting with him and trying some different approaches. As soon as I added the background I was like, 'BOOM, there you are!' (FYI, I don't care that I'm not cool enough to carry off BOOM, I'm doing it anyway, 'cause Chazz Michael Michaels is my idol.)

My first Doodle

Well, we all must start somewhere. So here is the first doodle of my blog, a step on finding my illustration style and building up my portfolio.

I think I have quite an edgy, somewhat gritty style. But I think just because my style is like that, doesn't mean I have to apply it only to gritty subject matter. So I will also experiment with things I've never thought of doing, like fashion perhaps. We shall see.

Forgive the unsightly 'copyright' watermark, but unfortunately I have found this necessary on all doodles and pictures.
