The Fifty First Doodle

Deep down, I still totally love extreme sports. I may not do any sports style work for a while, but it always niggles in the back of my mind.

I love the energy, the aggression, the passion, the youthful nature. I do enjoy doing other types of sporting illustrations, but I think the reason I especially love skating, BMXing, surfing and snowboarding is because that's what I was into as a 'yoof'. I was part of the 'alternative' gang, I dated skater boys, I went surfing, I thought I was so bloody cool.

Then I grew up. And realized that I am, indeed, very cool.

I have a soft spot for girls who do these sports, as they are generally still very male dominated. Respect to those ladies who are not only trying to improve their skills and do what they love, but are doing it in a industry that is still mostly run by men for men. That's why you need to check out some of the fab ladies like those at Yeah Zine and give them some support!

The Twenty-Eighth Doodle

I used to love doing extreme sports art work, and I must confess I have found it again a wee bit.

This image is to be featured with some of my other pieces by the lovely ladies at Yeah Zine and they are using this lady design on some flyers for a BMX filming trip too - boom. Pretty cool yeah!

This was my first 'reassessment' of BMX stuff in my developed style, and I am pleased with her. I wanted her to be gritty and edgy, but still very feminine and fabulous. And you know me - I do love hair!

The Fifteenth Doodle

Oh my, deep down I still love skateboarding/bmxing/surfing/snowboarding. I am useless at all of them, yet adore watching them. I did go surfing in Australia which was fab, but after a nasty fall in the shallows have suffered with the ghost of a torn back muscle ever since. Awesome.

So I am clearly meant to sit and watch these people, and draw them. Which I love.

Though sometimes egos get in the way. I have often been treated like a 'groupie' by those doing said extreme sport, which makes me furious. The same happens if I'm doing any sort of musical/band pictures.

Errrr don't flatter yourself mate. I am a talented and independent lady in my own right, and I am not here to whimper over you and draw attention to myself in order to ensnare a skater/guitarist boyf. No spanks.

I draw, and I love to watch things that inspire me. Too bad the people who do it can often (not always, but often) be so narrow minded.
